Characters who are usually involved the itinerant type who wanders from town to town in their sole possessions being clothing, gun, and horse. It portrays a society in which persons have no social order greater than their immediate peers, family, or even perhaps themselves alone. The character must develop a reputation by acts of violence, or can be generous, because kindness is in everyone's heart.
